IBM Scientific Prize Ceremony

Last Wednesday, January 16, the IBM Scientific Prize Ceremony was held at IST's Noble Hall, presided by His Excellency the President of the Portuguese Republic, Professor Doctor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
During the ceremony, the President of Instituto Superior Técnico Prof. Arlindo Oliveira, the President of IBM Portugal António Raposo de Lima, the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education Prof. Dr. Manuel Heitor, and the President of the Jury of the IBM Scientific Prize Prof. Carlos Salema spoke about the prize and the advancement in science it has brought to Portugal.
After a brief presentation of the two works that received an Honorable Mention, made by Dr Daniel Dinis and Dr Elisabete Silva, it was Marija's turn to present her work on 'Extreme laser-matter interactions: multi-scale PIC modeling from the classical to QED-dominated regimes'.
To conclude the ceremony, Dr Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic, spoke. He began by talking about IBM's connection to the country, the evolution it brought, and the advancement in science that the IBM Scientific Prize encouraged in Portugal. He reinforced the consistency in the excellence of those awarded by IBM. He congratulated Marija, stressing her humility, the team spirit that makes scientific research possible, and in particular her ability to clearly expose her work, demonstrating not only her knowledge but her pedagogical capacity.
