IST ATHENS course on Plasma Science and Technology

The latest edition of the IST ATHENS course on Plasma Science and Technology took place from November 18-22, 2024.

The course, organised by IPFN, was attended by 15 students coming from 8 different higher education institutions in France, Czech Republic, Belgium, Turkey, and other countries. They were exposed to the fundamentals of plasma physics and its technological applications through theoretical classes, hands-on experiments, and laboratory visits.

The program included topics such as plasmas in nature, fluid and kinetic theories, plasma applications, and Langmuir probes, as well as workshops on Python for data processing, and visits to the ISTTOK tokamak and laser laboratories. Students appreciated the course's focus on practical applications and interdisciplinary collaboration. Notably, the program also fostered cross-cultural exchange by grouping students with diverse scientific backgrounds.

The ATHENS Network is made up of 15 leading European technological universities. It organises intensive short-duration courses at each member institution, offering a platform for students to deepen their knowledge in specialised fields and build connections across Europe.
