Laserlab-Europe Conference
Monday 27 to Wednesday 29 May 2024
Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal
The Laserlab-Europe Conference will showcase results and access highlights from the Laserlab-Europe project, and will enhance dissemination and exploitation within the laser community and beyond. It will be an opportunity to bring together the participants in the project, in the expert groups of Laserlab-Europe AISBL as well as medical and industrial partners to discuss future joint activities.
The conference is fully open, also to participants from outside Laserlab-Europe. For interested companies, exhibition space will be provided. All participants and company representatives are invited to contribute to the discussions at the end of each session.
We look forward to meeting you in Lisbon.

Venue
Venue: IST Congress Center (Centro de Congressos do Instituto Superior Técnico), University campus in Alameda, Lisbon. GPS: 38º44’15,54’’ N, 9º08’24,93’’ W
Located in the IST Alameda campus, the Congress Centre has excellent accessibility, either by metro, bus or train. Recommended hotels are within 5-10 min. walking distance. The Centre can be acessed directly from the street through an open gate or by going into the Civil Eng. Building when inside the IST campus.
The lectures will take place in the large auditorium, while the internal events will take place in an adjacent room. The IST campus is very conveniently located in the town, at a close distance from its historical centre and from the airport, being served by a nearby metro station (Saldanha, at the crossing of the Red and the Yellow lines).
Getting there from the Airport
Humberto Delgado Airport (IATA: LIS), informally Lisbon Airport, is an international airport located about 20 minutes away from the city centre of Lisbon. You may use either the metro, the bus or taxi/Uber to reach IST.
- Metro - The Lisbon Airport has a Metro (subway) station with a direct line to the city centre. The 'Aeroporto – Saldanha' line takes you to downtown Lisbon in about 20 minutes. Single fare price is €1.80 and a 24h Network Pass costs €6.80. The closest metro stations to the Congress Center are ‘Campo Pequeno’, ‘Alameda’ and ‘Saldanha’. https://www.metrolisboa.pt/en/
- Buses - Several bus lines stop at the airport arrivals terminal, taking you to different parts of the city. However, please note that the maximum baggage size allowed in these buses is 50x40x20cm. If your baggage exceeds this size, you must take the airport's specific buses (Aerobus and Airport Shuttle). https://www.carris.pt/en/
- Taxi - You can always find a taxi at the airport, normally queueing outside the departures and arrivals terminals. As the city centre is very close by, taxis are a rather affordable transportation option, even with the luggage fees that may be charged separately by the driver. Depending on traffic, the journey to the city centre is quick, costing between 10 and 15 euros, including luggage fees. If you choose this mean of transportation, make sure the meter is turned on at the beginning of the journey and always ask for a receipt/invoice. Please exert usual precautions and ensure that the driver is taking an adequate path. If you prefer to take an Uber from the airport, once you are in Arrivals, head to Park P2 and follow the directions.
