About Us

The research at the Hypersonic Plasmas Laboratory (HPL) pays tribute to the Portuguese heritage on the exploration of new worlds, now with new horizons. HPL hosts the European Shock-Tube for High Enthalpy Research (ESTHER), the sole Portuguese Space facility for the planning of planetary exploration missions.
