PEGASUS Machine Completed

In the framework of PEGASUS project a disruptive plasma technology and proof-of-concept plasma-based machine was created for a gram-scale fabrication of high quality graphene and derivatives.

IN-PART

PEGASUS machine has reached Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5. A reactor and system used for the fabrication of freestanding two-dimensional nanostructures using plasma technology is under consideration. A total of 13 patents have been submitted, of which four have already been granted. IN-PART is an online matchmaking platform for university-industry collaboration.

PEGASUS @ SWOPTAN

The Second International Workshop on Plasma-Tailored Nanostructures and Applications (SWOPTAN) took place in Rogla, Slovenia, from January 31 to February 2, 2022. This conference focused on scientific and technological topics related to fundamental surface nanoscience and applications of plasmas and related approaches to plasma processing and micro-and nanofabrication. Neelakandan Santhosh delivered a talk on "Plasma-Enabled Technologies for Future Energy Storage materials" about the results achieved in the PEGASUS project correlated with plasma designed vertical carbon for supercapacitors.

A versatile plasma-based machine producing high-quality graphene and derivatives with high level of customization (e.g., graphene, N-graphene and hybrid graphene-metal-based nanostructures) is now operational at PEL - IPFN .

PEGASUS @ 16th SDEWES

The 16th SDEWES Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems was held 10-15 October 2021 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It has brought around 630 scientists, researchers, and experts in sustainable development from 58 countries. The conference was focused on the techniques for developing advanced energy materials, recovery of raw materials, future energy systems, and water and waste treatment. A talk was delivered on "The Essence of Plasma for Future Energy Storage Materials" covering promising results obtained during the PEGASUS project.

PEGASUS @ 240th ECS Meeting

The 240th ECS Meeting brings together the most active researchers in academia, government and industry - professionals and students - to engage, discuss, and innovate in the areas of electrochemistry and solid-state science and technology. The conference covered different technical sections, including electrochemical energy systems, energy storage devices, carbon nanostructures and devices, semiconductors, batteries, electrochemistry and electrochemical engineering, plasma processing, etc. Elena Tatarova and Eva Kovacevic have given two invited talks in the topic session D06: Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Processing on the titles “Microwave Plasmas Applied for a Large-Scale Production of Graphene & Derivatives” and “Plasma Produced and Processed Multimaterials Based on Vertically Aligned Graphene Walls and Their Applications”, respectively.

PEGASUS @ 47th EPS

The 47th European Physical Society Conference on Plasma Physics continues a series of plasma physics conferences organized by the European Physical Society (EPS) covering the wide field of plasma physics, from nuclear fusion research to low temperature plasmas, as well as space and astrophysical plasmas. The conference covered different topics including magnetic confinement fusion plasma, Beam Plasmas & Inertial Fusion, Low Temperature and Dusty Plasmas, Basic, Space & Astrophysical Plasmas. Dario Sciacqua gave a talk on “Evolution and control of reactive species in an aniline RF discharge” covering latest results of PEGASUS project.

PEGASUS @ SURFCOAT

The International Conference on Surfaces, coatings and interfaces - SurfCoat Korea 2021 was held from May 26 to 28, 2021 (Virtual event). The conference focused on a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art in the fields of surfaces, coatings and interfaces engineering, discussed recent advances and current problems, and pointed out the prospective development of the field. Uros Cvelbar has given an invited talk entitled "Plasma engineering of graphene nanowalls and other 2D structures beyond graphene", which presented an overview of the PEGASUS project results. The participants were fascinated by the talk and showed a great research interest. New ideas for future collaboration have been discussed.

PEGASUS @ Research Meets Industry 2021

The Research meets Industry event took place last April 21, through an organization of the European Commission in collaboration with the FET BRIEFING project, funded under the Horizon 2020 Programme. This event focuses on innovative projects that are developing material and technologies for the energy and environment areas. The meeting is an excellent occasion for innovative businesses to find scientific support and build relationships to launch their next ideas.

PEGASUS in ICOPS 2020

The 47th International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS 2020) organized by the Plasma Science and Application Committee (PSAC) of the IEEE Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society took place in Syngapore, from 6 to 10 of December 2020. The program of the ICOPS 2020 covered both traditional areas of plasma and terahertz science and new exploratory research areas. A talk was given by collaborator Ana Dias on "Plasmas: A Way to Produce Graphene-Based Hybrid Nanostructures at Industrial Scale for a Wide Range of Applications".

PEGASUS in the Graphene Technology 2020

The Graphene Technology 2020 conference took place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 12 to 14 of February 2020. Scientists and engineers came from all over the world to share the latest scientific and technical developments in solid state and electrochemistry science and technology. One keynote talk was given by project coordinator Elena Tatarova on "Microwave Plasma Enable Single Step Synthesis of Graphene and Graphene Based Hybrid Nanostructures" and two invited talks were given by collaborators Neli Bundaleska and Ana Dias.

PEGASUS in the GES3

The GES3 conference was organized by Jozef Stefan Institute in Rogla, Slovenia, from 3 to 6 of February 2020. This edition addressed interesting topics of plasma interfaces, tailored nanostructures and applications as well as related approaches to analysis, processing and nanoscale synthesis. One invited talk was given by Ana Dias on "Tailoring Microwave Plasmas for Carbon Nanostructures Synthesis". Moreover, three other invited talks were given by Eva Kovacevic, Johannes Berndt and Zhivko Kissovski, where relevant PEGASUS results were presented.

Lab2Market 2019

PEGASUS was one of the five teams selected in the accelaration program Lab2Market@Tecnico 2019. During the program, PEGASUS team, Bruno Gonçalves (CEO), Luís L. Alves (CTO), Ana Inês Dias, Jorge Santos and Luís Silva (R&D Team), teamed up with Lab2Market partners, Everis and I-Deals consultants. This acceleration program for market-driven breakthrough technologies featured 250 hours of mentoring with the Everis and I-Deals teams between April and June. Being part of this initiative has allowed the market to come closer to the products developed at PEL/N-PRiME/IPFN.

PEGASUS first Review Meeting

The first Review Meeting of the PEGASUS project took place at Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon, on December 14th, 2018, with the presence of the lead partners of the consortium. The purpose of the meeting was for the Evaluation Panel and the European Commission Officer to evaluate the progress achieved during the first year of the PEGASUS project and assess the future steps.

PEGASUS in Ciência 2018

PEGASUS project was present in the latest edition of Encontro Ciência 2018, the National Science and Technology Summit of Portugal, which took place in the Lisbon Congress Center from 2 to 4 July 2018. The event gathered people from all over the country to promote the interaction between researchers, the business sector and the general public. Ana Dias, PhD researcher from IPFN, presented the "Fabrication of free-standing graphene and derivatives via a microwave plasma-based method" to a broad audience.

PEGASUS first international Workshop

PEGASUS first international workshop took place during the course of the 8th International Workshop and Summer School on Plasma Physics in Kiten, Bulgaria, from 10 to 17 June 2018. The PEGASUS workshop was a great opportunity to share the project’s goals and ambitions with the scientific community. For example, Uros Cvelbar, lead partner from the Jozef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia, presented a lecture on: "How can plasmas build carbon nanostructures?"

The PEGASUS project was highlighted in the Materials and Nanotechnology section of SciTech Europa Quarterly, issue 27, pages 68 to 69. The article, entitled "Microwave plasmas meet graphene”, presents the primary advantages of using microwave plasmas as a disruptive "green" alternative for the production of high quality graphene and its derivative N-graphene at a large scale.
