APPLAuSE Workshop 2017 - summary
On January 18th 2017, the several cohorts of students enrolled in the APPLAuSE doctoral program on plasma science and engineering hosted the first edition of the APPLAuSE Workshop. The event, which took place at IST's Congress Centre, was organized by the students Fábio Cruz, Giannandrea Inchingolo and Diogo Aguiam.The students presented recent developments of their work their graduate and undergraduate colleagues at IST, as well as senior researchers, both by oral and poster presentations. Eager to present their projects, the students were ready to debate and answer any questions to anyone interested.
This workshop also hosted an IPFN colloquium by Professor Luis Oliveira e Silva, entitled Extreme Plasmas: from surfing at the speed of light to boiling the vacuum. Besides the scientific activities, the participants of the APPLAuSE Workshop 2017 also carried out some team-building exercises like the interactive activity Guess the Universe.
At the end of the workshop, Professor João Pedro Bizarro was introduced as the new program director of APPLAuSE, thanking the students in a brief speech and the agenda was closed with a small celebration gathering students and researchers in an informal environment
