Minister for Science and Higher Education visits ITER

Last February 6th the Portuguese Minister for Science and Higher Education, Prof. Manuel Heitor visited ITER, accompanied with a representative of the FCT directive board, Prof. Isabel Ribeiro and a delegation of Portuguese research institutions and companies.

The team of visitors, which also included the president of IST, Prof. Arlindo Oliveira, and the president of IPFN, Dr. Bruno Gonçalves, was received by the ITER Director General, Prof. Bernard Bigot. The delegation had the opportunity to discuss the Portuguese contribution and future opportunities. The visit was also an opportunity to see the construction status on site and the progresses on the tokamak building.

In the afternoon, the delegation was welcomed in CEA to visit the tokamak WEST. The mount of progresses on ITER site were visible and impressive. All the participants were really impressed with the project and are eager to contribute further to the challenge of making fusion energy a reality.
