IPFN at the top of FCT evaluations in Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus

The provisional results of the Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (Institutional CEEC – Associate Laboratories) highlight seven Associate Laboratories (LA) affiliated with Instituto Superior Técnico. The Institute for Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion (IPFN) was the top-ranked among 39 applications. The Instituto de Telecomunicações ranked third, the Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transports and Aeronautics (a consortium comprising the Mechanical Engineering Institute – IDMEC) ranked sixth, and the Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Investigação e Desenvolvimento (INESC-ID) ranked tenth.

The Institute for Health and Bioeconomics (a consortium comprising the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences – iBB and the Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores para os Microsistemas e Nanotecnologias – INESC MN), the Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics (LIP), the Institute for Molecular Science (which includes the Centro de Química Estrutural – CQE), the Laboratory for Physics of Materials and Emerging Technologies (which includes the Center of Physics and Engineering of Advanced Materials – CeFEMA) also obtained funding in this call.

In total, 22 contract positions will be open for Associate Laboratories affiliated with Técnico: six contracts under D.L no. 57/2016, of August 29, six for Junior Researcher and ten for Auxiliary Researcher.

Published on 7 March by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the provisional list includes 36 of 39 applications submitted by the Associate Laboratories. 120 contract positions for doctorates were assigned for a period of 6 years, corresponding to a total investment of 41.3 million euros.

The Institutional CEEC – Associate Laboratories aims to fund the hiring of doctorate holders by Associate Laboratories, through financial support for scientific employment and career development plans. It also seeks to strengthen the institutional cooperation network, in order to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the productive and social fabric and strengthening the conditions for innovation.

In total, 43 contracts were funded under D.L no. 57/2016, of August 29, for Junior Researcher (16) and Auxiliary Researcher (27); and 77 contracts for research careers concluded without term or indefinite duration, in all categories. The recruitment and selection procedures will be opened by the beneficiary institutions.
