Applications open for PlasmaSurf 2025!

PlasmaSurf is a summer school focused on plasma physics, intense lasers, and nuclear fusion, designed specifically for BSc/MSc engineering and physics students who have completed at least 120 ECTS. It offers a fantastic opportunity to gain insights into these topics, complementing your curricular training by expanding your knowledge in an exciting and cutting-edge area of physics.

In addition to lectures and laboratory visits, PlasmaSurf promotes a strong international and interdisciplinary environment, with participants from all over Europe and beyond. The programme encourages informal discussions and knowledge sharing among students and researchers with diverse academic backgrounds — from undergraduate to PhD level.

“The exchange of knowledge with participants from different fields and countries was truly enriching. I had the chance to both teach and learn from Bachelor’s to PhD students and discover what kind of plasma research is being done across Europe. We also got to learn about PhD opportunities in Lisbon and the work being done in the Tokamak here. It was inspiring”,  said a student who took part in the 11th edition of PlasmaSurf, held in 2024.

Students can also opt for PlasmaSurf+, which includes access to the MOOC feX: Plasmas on plasma diagnostics. This course is part of a Blended Intensive Program and may grant 3 ECTS credits, depending on your university’s regulations. feX: Plasmas is also open to all learners in the academic community.

Alongside its academic component, PlasmaSurf offers a vibrant programme of extracurricular and leisure activities designed to foster team spirit, cultural exchange and lasting connections — all in a relaxed seaside atmosphere that makes the most of Lisbon’s summer energy.
