IPFN in Stanford’s List of Most Influential Scientists

More than 70 scientists from Instituto Superior Técnico are featured in the 2025 edition of the Stanford–Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists Ranking (which refers to 2024), placing them among the most cited researchers worldwide.

At IPFN, José Tito Mendonça, Luís Oliveira e Silva, Eduardo Alves, Vasco Guerra, Jorge Loureiro, Luís Lemos Alves, Carlos Matos Ferreira(†), Diogo Ribeiro Ferreira and Mikhail Benilov were recognised for their outstanding contributions to plasma physics and nuclear fusion.

Compiled by Stanford University and published by Elsevier, this ranking identifies the world’s most influential scientists across disciplines, drawing on citation data from the Scopus database.

The study encompasses 22 broad scientific fields and 176 subfields, analysing data from more than 200,000 researchers, and provides percentile ranks for all scholars with at least five published papers. It includes two complementary datasets: one evaluating career-long scientific impact (updated to the end of 2024) and another capturing citations received during the 2024 calendar year.

Congratulations to all!
